Distribution

Breeds and occurs on migration in Kyzylkum desert, on Syrdarya valley, in Karakum sands adjacent to Aral Sea and in lower reaches of Sarysu river. On Ustyurt it was observed in 7 May 1989 (Rustamov, 2004), but bird was not obtained.

Biology

Rare breeding migrant. Inhabits sandy deserts with bushes near water. In spring appears in end April – early May. Nesting in separate pairs. Nest is a shallow hole without lining. Clutches of 2 eggs were found in mid-May – mid-June. Flying juveniles were mist-netted in end of July. Repeated nesting after the losing of first clutches is very probably. Autumn migration starts in second half of August, latest bird recorded at 1 October 1954.
