Almaty, Republic Square.

Morning. I saw not less than three tens Common Whitethroats, it was surprising to me that Whitethroats were feeding on the ground, searching the food among the roses. Two Barred Warblers were as usually shyer than Whitethroats, the Common Nightingales were hiding in bushes. I ran into also other little birds, but I had not time to make out them. Again I saw yesterday's Stomechats and Turkestan Shrike. In the square at Republic Museum I heard Warblers, and in Samal saw one Wood Pigeon and two Laughing Doves. [...... read more ]

Almaty, Aitykov str.

The first record of Pygmy Cormorant in Almaty in general and, in particular, during the winter. The expansion of the Pygmy Cormorant to the northeast concerns not only the probable nesting area, but also the wintering grounds. The nearest winter finds are Sorbulak and Taldykorgan (winter 2017-18, one bird each). In this connection, it is worth noting a significant number of birds in the Almaty (40) and Sorbulak (20) records this winter.
