Almaty. Vesnovka.

2007-02-17 | Askar Isabekov

The birds' songs are all around. The irregular chirps of Tree Sparrows are heard mostly. The songs of Red-fronted Serins are more low and more melodical. Serins are ever so lesser than sparrows therefor they are more invisible. But they are a lot also. Loud Great Tits are not fly on the flocks but also flashy. Grey-headed Goldfinches are the best singers on this place but they aren't so numerous and more scary than other birds. There are a few Chaffinches. They have been washed in the river. Also Mynahs and Crows have been washed on shallow. When I have closed Mynahs and Crows have made hullabaloo together and I have prefered to go home. [...... read more ]

Almaty. Republic Square.

2007-02-07 | Askar Isabekov

I didn't watch birds so long. Today I have gone to New (Republic) Square and have seen a little changes. February is not snowy and snow under birches and bushes was melted by warm air. There are much more Mynahs and Blackbirds. Saw Blackird washing in the puddle like at spring. The songs of a some birds are changed. Blackbirds not only chatter but yet sing. Greate Tits also sing more. Chaffinches, Bramblings, Great Tits feed in the shank leaves. Saw a flock (20-30 birds) of White-winged Grosbeaks. Grosbeaks are less scary than other birds. I have squated and Grosbeaks have not taken heed of me about ten minutes. One female have fed about one and half meters over me. Also I saw several Greenfinches. Greenfinches appear in Alma-Ata on early spring. On the spring you can hear everywere the songs of Greenfinches with specific whir. This year I heard Greenfinch's whir in the middle of February yet. Bramblings, Grosbeaks and Chaffinches have mostly fed but Greenfiches else gamed. [...... read more ]

A rare wintering species in the western part of Kazakhstan. In the Mangistau region, it has been recorded three times before. At the Tushchibek spring A.P. Moiseev caught a female on February 6, 1967 (Karpov, Kovshar, 2011), one bird was encountered on a stream near the Khangababa mosque on November 13, 2007 (Belyalov, 2008), at the non-freezing stream in the Tamshaly tract - one bird on February 2, 2014 (Belyalov, 2014).
